Assignments: Two doctors from Washington, Dr. Garrit Stanley and Dr. Jerry Rusher, travel to Dessalines, Haiti, Nov. 18 to Dec. 17. They will work at the hospital and help teach medical students.

Teams: Keith Snyder of the Edgewood FMC, Rochester, NY, and 15 others will celebrate Thanksgiving Day in Haiti this year. This team will construct a new school in Jessome, Nov. 20 to 28. Edgewood FMC has been involved in all phases of the project, from preliminary-site planning to the school design and now the construction of the building.

International Child Care Ministries Update

We thank God for all the volunteers who have gone to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake to work alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters rebuilding schools and churches and doing the work of relief and recovery. Our VISA Ministries office has processed 602 volunteers since January 2010! Sixty work teams have demolished or repaired buildings; built schools and churches; drilled wells; distributed water filters, food and solar ovens; assisted with medical needs at Dessalines Hospital; and equipped 500 Haitian teachers.

This week we received the report that finally all schools “have a roof over their heads,” either occupying their own schools or using the church buildings. The next phase will be to replace temporary structures with permanent ones and to build schools in the places where sanctuaries have been turned into temporary classrooms.

A great big THANK YOU to all who have gone, all who pray, and all who continue to give generously to support the recovery efforts in Haiti. We are far from done! But we have reached a very significant milestone along this very long journey, for which we thank God.

Dessalines Hospital Team Updates

A team of nine from Round Rock, TX, will do maintenance work and conduct outreach ministries in Dessalines, Haiti, Nov. 2 to 9. Jim Rowan is the team leader.

Mike Bootland, Polson Park FMC, Ontario, Canada, travels to Dessalines, Haiti, to help with hospital renovations and repairs. His travel dates are Nov. 1 to 15.

Ken and Denise Wallis

Ken and Denise Wallis, from Saskatchewan, Canada, travel to Dessalines, Haiti, Oct. 24 to Dec. 13 to help facilitate teams and assist with building maintenance. They have six years of experience with this work.

The pastoral training program of the Haitian FMC, the Institut Biblique Methodiste Libre, has resumed classes for the fall. Pray for the 15 men and women who are in their final year of pastoral training.

Jeff Nault is leading a team of 13 from Ontario, Canada, to Haiti, Oct. 19 to 29. This team will be doing construction work in Mapou.

Pastor Nelson Brandymore, Coldwater, MI, is leading a team of five to Dessalines, Haiti, Oct. 20 to 23. This is an advance planning team for a larger team that will work next year on rehabilitating a building for vision/dental clinics.

A 15-member construction team from East Williamson, NY, will minister in Haiti Sept. 21 to Oct. 1. Cathy and Dick Herman are the leaders for this team that will work on a school building in Gonaives.

A team of four adults and 10 teens from Cross Roads Community Church, Ottawa Lake, MI, is currently ministering in Haiti through July 26. Youth pastor Keith Luke is leading this construction team.

A team of six teacher trainers representing four states travel to Haiti Aug. 1 to 11.

Structural Assessments Follow Up

Tom Pavone, Greg Hale and Keith Snyder, Edgewood FMC, Rochester, NY, travel to Haiti, May 20 to 24, to follow up on structural assessments (post earthquake), do some civil engineering and design projects for the FMC and FOHO (Friends Of Haiti Organization) and work on 12 Pillars, an extra mile project.

Arlington FMC, WA, is sending a team to do construction work in Haiti Feb. 17 to March 3. Ron Hansen is the leader for this seven-member team.

Michael Bootland, Polson Park FMC, Canada, travels to Haiti Feb. 15 to March 15 to work with a school construction team.

Jonathan Horton, pastor of the Yorkshire FMC, NY, travels to Haiti Feb. 19 to 26 where he will teach at the Institut Biblique, visit missionaries and explore partnership opportunities.

The cholera outbreak in Haiti has thus far taken the lives of more than 1,600 people and hospitalized more than 70,000. At this point, we are aware of only one ICCM-sponsored child who has perished as a result of this unexpected epidemic. Recently, ICCM staff in Port-au-Prince received hundreds of Sawyer water filters to distribute where most needed to combat this deadly disease. The Free Methodist hospital in Dessalines, Haiti, is being used by Doctors Without Borders to treat many who are suffering. Please join us in vigilant prayer and compassionate responses.
