As of March 24, $1,445,618 has been given through the Bishops Famine and Relief Fund, Help Haiti Heal, Operation Hope and International Child Care Ministries for Haiti relief, recovery and development needs.
Relief funds are being distributed in three waves. During this first wave – occurring at this time – money is being given to Haitian superintendents and pastors at specific distribution points concentrated in areas where Free Methodists live. The funds are being used to purchase water, food, tents, medical supplies and other necessities – not only providing relief supplies but also a boost to the local economy. The funds have been brought in by FM teams entering the country.
The second wave of funds will be used for rehabilitation and the third for development. Budgets are being developed with the Haitian FMC for use of wave two and three funds.
